Winter is also an ideal time to explore Marlborough’s incredible cycle and walking trails.
The Queen Charlotte Track remains open year-round, with crisp winter days often providing some of the clearest views across the Marlborough Sounds. For cycling enthusiasts, the Whale Trail offers another fantastic option. This longer distance scenic cycling route connects coastal towns Picton with Kaikōura with plenty of stops to enjoy local food and wine along the way. Walk, ride or drive the spectacular White Road at Yealands Estate; located in the Awatere Valley near the town of Seddon. Right on the coast, the 7.5kms of white gravel roads contrast beautifully with the rolling vineyard rows and sparkling sea. You can often see the North Island from Lookout Point! Rewards yourself with a tasting of wine at the cellar door. The cellar door is open Friday to Monday, 10:30am to 4:30pm; and The White Road is open Friday to Monday 10:30am to 4:00pm.
