Marlborough Self-Guided Wine Tour
Discover Marlborough’s 150+ wineries on your own self-guided biking wine tour. We’ll collect you from your accommodation and set you up with full bike rental and quality equipment, including helmets, locks, and high-vis vests, then send you on your way with all the recommendations, tips, and hints you need to craft your own unforgettable Marlborough wine adventure.
Want to tour the entire valley and visit iconic wineries like Villa Maria and Cloudy Bay? Our brand new electric bikes are available as part of your bike hire, alongside standard bikes, tandems, and options for kids. Just give us your pick-up location, show up, and ride.
Three Hour Self-guided Tour
Pick up: You can pick your bikes up from our base at the Vines Village. Please specify your approximate arrival time when you book so that we can have your bikes ready and waiting.
Drop Off: At the end of your three hours of biking you return your bikes to our base at The Vines Village.
Wineries: We provide you with a map of the wineries and give you some ideas on where to go and what to do for your day. Unless you have a large group you do not need to pre-book the tastings at wineries. The wineries charge a small tasting fee and all take EFTPOS or credit cards. We recommend allowing 45-60 mins per winery if you are pre-planning your day.
Full Day Self-guided Tour
For just NZ$65 per person you can have the entire day out (7 hours) to explore our region. Plus a FREE pick up and drop off shuttle from your local accommodation.
Pick up: Your tour comes with a free pick-up and drop-off service within central Blenheim/Renwick/Spring Creek areas. We will pick you up from the accommodation given in your booking. Please be ready outside your accommodation at the time stated in your booking confirmation – we will be in an ‘Explore Marlborough’ sign written shuttle.
Alternatively if you haven’t given an address, you can meet us at our base – The Vines Village, 193 Raparua Road.
Drop off: At the end of the day we will drop you back to your accommodation.

In three hours it is possible to visit 3 wineries. But if you’re up for it, you can fit in as many as you like. For the full-day tour, we suggest you aim to fit in 5 winery visits with a lunch stop. But if you’re up for it, you can also fit in as many as you’d like.

Enjoyed a wonderful day on the bike cycling the back lanes and country roads to 5 or so wineries. Many lunch options and/or places to sit down and soak up the views, the wine and enjoy local cheese plates. Pick-up and drop off to Blenheim motel allowed for ample sampling to take place plus suggestions and tour map made for a relaxing day. Great way to see the area and taste the produce.

We had a fantastic day as we explored the Marlborough vineyards on our self guided bike tour. From the beginning we were picked up at our accomodation spot and given a thorough rundown on our bikes and the map when we arrived at the tour operators base. Every hire includes a modern bike, helmet, lock, and high-vis vest. You also get a detailed cellar door map, expert route planning, and local recommendations on which wineries to visit, where to eat, and what wines to try. Full-day tours include a free shuttle from your accommodation. If you buy too much wine to carry, we’ll pick it up for you. and if you break down, give us a call and we’ll come to the rescue.

For the three-hour tour, grab your bikes from our base at The Vines Village on Rapaura Road, get some great local recommendations from our guides, then you’ll head off at your own pace.
For the full-day tour, we collect you from your accommodation in our shuttle, set you up with bikes and local advice, then you’re free to explore the valley however you like. At the end of the day we’ll drop you back to your accommodation.

In three hours you can comfortably visit around three wineries. On a full day we suggest aiming for four or five visits plus a lunch stop. There are over a dozen wineries within a ten-minute ride of our base so you can fit in as many as you like.

It varies. A handful of Marlborough’s top cellar doors – including Cloudy Bay and Hans Herzog Estate are appointment only, so you’ll need to plan ahead. Others run scheduled tasting sessions with tickets required, and plenty welcome walk-ins. Checking each winery’s website before you head out is always a good idea, and in summer booking ahead is recommended. We can help you plan your route around whichever wineries suit your day.

Marlborough has over 150 wineries, and while not all have cellar doors open to visitors, you’ll find an exceptional cluster within a very short ride of our base at The Vines Village on Rapaura Road. Whitehaven is right on site, No. 1 Family Estate is next door, and iconic names like Cloudy Bay, Allan Scott, Wairau River, Nautilus, and Framingham are all within easy reach. From there it’s entirely up to you. We’ll set you up with a map and local recommendations so you can make the most of wherever the day takes you.

It depends on what you want from the day. A self-guided tour gives you complete freedom. You choose the wineries, set the pace, and explore on your own terms. A guided tour means a local expert leads the way, shares knowledge about the vines and wines, and takes care of everything. If you want a bit of both, our Morning Guided and Afternoon Self-Guided tour is the best of both worlds.
