When to Visit
Marlborough is a great place to visit all year round. While it gets colder in the winter, the weather remains fine and we will often have clear, blue calm winter days for weeks on end. In general, most people visit in between October and May. If you are planning a visit, consider timing it with one of our great events:
Events in Marlborough
Marlborough Wine and Food Festival – 13th Feb 2016.
Held every year on the second Saturday in February. This event has been running for more than 20 years and is a great day out. If you are in the region for this week, definitely consider staying on and going to the festival.
The Forrest Estate Grape Ride – 2nd April 2016
This would have to rate as one of the most fun and scenic bike rides in the country. The Grape Ride has a range of rides to cater to different fitness levels, but the core ride is a 100km circuit of the Queen Charlotte Drive, starting and finishing at the Forrest Estate Cellar Door in Renwick. If you are a bike rider then this is a must do event.
The Havelock Mussel Festival –18th March 2015
Given that Marlborough is home to the NZ Greenshell Mussel it is only fitting that we have a festival to celebrate. The little town of Havelock hosts the Mussel Festival every year in March.
Saint Clair Vineyard Half Marathon - 14th May 2016
This is a half marathon with a difference. Not only do you get to run off-road through beautiful Marlborough vineyards, but the organisers also provide entertainment around the course, as well as samples of delicious Marlborough produce to try along the way. All entrants also get a bottle of Saint Clair Wine as they cross the finish line.
Marlborough Book Festival – July 26th-28th 2016
One of the most intimate boutique book festivals in NZ, with venues that showcase Marlborough at its best. Come and hear a selection of NZ writers talk about their books and work, while you sip on wonderful Marlborough wine. The festival is held centrally at the Blenheim Club and at wineries throughout the valley.
